Malpe: Ban on Bull Trawl Fishing demanded by Traditional fishermen

Malpe, October, 2013: The Traditional fisherman’s association today called upon the authorities to ban the Bull Trawl Fishing during the association meeting on the 17th October at 11 at Eloor Moghaveera auditorium, Malpe.

The unscientific way of fishing techniques adopted by these Bull Trawl Fishermen is matter of concern. Fishing is endangered and demanded the immediate interference of the government in this regard and ban Bull Trawl Fishing.

All type of boats and fishermen must get equal rights to pursue fishing.  Since Bull Troll fishing will end the species of fish, it is necessary to impose ban on it and promote population of fish and all boost fishing.’

Mr. Krishna Suvarna, the treasurer of the association further stated that after several request to the authorities’, no action has been taken to answer their concerns and appealed the members not to go into fishing again without any action from the authorities. As fishing is their lifeline, this is the question of surviving so many families. They also demanded that the Bull Trawl fishing should not be given permission for night fishing and they should be allowed to do the fishing only for 3 months after the start of the fishing season.

During the meeting association president Gurudas Bangera, treasurer Krishna Suvarna, Ammajyothi boat owner, Nagaraj Suvarna, Sri Ebrahim from E F. T. company, Chadra Salian. from Durgajyothi boat, Kanni president Somappa kanchan, Dolphin boat owner Sadashiva and many others were present during the meeting.
