French sale of nuclear reactors to India will create ’mistrust’: Pak

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has criticised a multi-billion-dollar agreement finalised by France to sell two nuclear reactors to India, saying the deal would create "mistrust" and have "serious security implications" in South Asia. Responding to a question on the France-India deal at a weekly news briefing, Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit renewed Pakistan’s demand to be treated at par with India in the field of civil nuclear cooperation.

India tops list of countries where bribery is way of life

BERLIN: India is among the countries topping the list for reported bribe payments over the year along with Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cameroon, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, the Palestinian territories, Senegal, Sierre Leone and Uganda. Premier Wen Jiabao will be accompanied by the biggest ever Chinese trade delegation to India when he touches down in New Delhi next Wednesday on a three-day visit, during which the two countries’ fast-growing but increasingly imbalanced trade relationship will be in focus. As of Wednesday, more than 250 representatives from 100 Chinese companies, in sectors ranging from manufacturing and banking to Information Technology, had confirmed their participation in next week’s visit.

UAE residence visa validity reduced to two years

According to a new rule, the validity of UAE residential visa and labour card has now been reduced to two years. This new rule for all workers and employees in the private sector will be applicable from January 2011. In a statement by Humaid Bin Deemas, Acting Director-General of the Ministry of Labour it was made clear that the UAE Cabinet has reduced the validity of labour cards of all categories of people who work in private sector from three years to two years in a bid to regulate the labour market

Karnataka consumers to shell out more for electricity

Electricity charges went up between five and 60 paise a unit in Karnataka from Tuesday with the average hike for Bangalore residents at around 31 paise per unit. This was announced by Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission chairman M. R. Sreenivasa Murthy. In villages, the increase is between 10 and 30 paise per unit. The new tariff will come into effect immediately.

Blast at Varanasi’s Dashashwamedh Ghat, 20 injured

NEW DELHI: At least 20 people including four foreigners were injured in a blast at the Dashashwamedh Ghat here during the Ganga arati around 6.30pm on Tuesday. Israel upset by Argentina’s recognition of Palestine

Israel expressed disappointment on Tuesday with Argentina’s recognition of a Palestinian state in territories Israel occupied in 1967, saying they undercut American-led efforts to create such a state through negotiations with Israel. Argentina said its move, announced on Monday just days after Brazil took a similar step, reflected the country’s deep frustration with gridlocked peace efforts. But Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said unilateral recognition was “counterproductive” to peacemaking.
